"Being the son of two AAPI immigrants, I am undeniably affected by the recent surge in violence against my community. Through democracy, we can go beyond the ‘heads-down, work-hard’ stereotype. We can have a voice. A mural is inherently art for the public, and like democracy, this project is about representing our community and the power we have in it. If we can make our voices both seen and heard, we can make a difference."

Mural Concept
The Seed of Change mural is based on the agricultural “three sisters” and the idea that the proper rotation of crops allows for prosperity.
Just as crops must be rotated and healthy soil depends on a diversity of plants, we must properly communicate, collaborate, and pass on the privilege of democracy to future generations of diverse people for all of us to prosper.
Community Collaborator
AAPI Democracy Project (ADP) is a national 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization, headquartered in New York and dedicated to creating justice and equality for America’s AAPI community. ADP will succeed by increasing AAPI understanding of and engagement with our nation’s democratic process in order to achieve autonomy, and financial power.
This mural will be a continuous reminder of how we can protect ourselves as a community through the act of voting. It is a call to action. Every time we fail to act in defense of our community, by voting and speaking out, we relinquish our power. Sustained democratic action is the only way to protect ourselves and our loved ones. We must vote in every single election, without fail.
“Seed of Change” mural will be unveiled on June 20th 12-3pm, NYC Chinatown 88 East Broadway at @aapidemocracyproject Voting is Justice Rally.
